Giro del Belvedere welcomes U23 talents chasing Team Visma title

35 teams will battle it out on April 1st for the crown owned by the Dutch squad: some of the best U23 World Tour teams like Astana, Bora, Jayco, EF and UAE Emirates among the contenders

The second century of Giro del Belvedere will kick off on April 1st with 35 teams chasing glory on the roads of Villa di Cordignano (Treviso, North-East Italy). Alongside with 18 Italian squads, there will be 17 international teams representing 15 Countries, confirming the status of the Venetian Easter Monday Classic, which represents an established springboard towards pro cycling.

The title holder, Norwegian Johannes Staune-Mittet, winner of Giro del Belvedere and Giro NextGen in 2023, achieved a professional contract with a major team such as Visma-Lease a Bike and will chase an encore on the roads of Belvedere, featuring Tijmen Graat (4th place in 2023 and winner of Palio del Recioto), Tomos Pattinson (Winner of Liège-Bastogne-Liège Junior) Italians Pietro Mattio and Dario Igor Belletta, and another Norwegian talent for both cycling and Nordic skiing such as Jorgen Nordhagen, gold medal in the junior men’s 20km mass start race in freestyle technique at the cross-country skiing World Championships at the beginning of February.

After a successful Centennial edition, Pro Belvedere organizers raised the bar with a new ascent: an ever-tougher 168 km route awaits the best Under 23 international riders on April 1st in Villa di Cordignano (North-East Italy)

Year after year, Giro del Belvedere keeps innovating and bringing on new features to confirm its status of reference events on the international U23 cycling scene. That’s why, after celebrating its 100-year history in 2023, the organizers of Pro Belvedere have partially reshaped the route by adding an extra twist in its second part, while always keeping a special focus on topics like the technical level and the safety of the athletes. With this regard, on April 1st, the Easter Monday classic is back in Villa di Cordignano (Treviso, North-East Italy) for an ever-tougher edition.

With the centennial edition’s celebrations (1923-2023) just a memory, Giro del Belvedere enters its second century with the 2024 edition, scheduled for April 1st. In the usual calendar spot of Easter Monday, the best international talents of the U23 category will battle it out to succeed rising star Johannes Staune-Mittet, winner of the latest edition.

The Pro Belvedere organizers gathered at the headquarters of Villa di Cordignano (Treviso, North East Italy), to officially end a successful 2023 and look forward to the next confirming the last editions’ highlights, namely the new challenging ascent of Piai della Vigna and the side event for guests with food and wine excellences of the region.

The 100-year anniversary edition of the Easter Monday Classic met with unanimous approval from athletes, authorities and the crowd, as witnessed by the 4,000 participants. The technical level keeps increasing: in the latest 10 years all winners became professionals riders

The organisers of the Pro Belvedere ASD had announced a memorable edition, and the one that took place on 10 April in the traditional setting of Villa di Cordignano (Treviso, Northern Italy) can be described as simply historic. In addition to being the 100th year since its foundation – with 84 editions held – the Easter Monday Classic involved a major part of the Cordignano community, with around 4,000 people cheering for cycling rising stars along the route. This was a remarkable step forward for the event, which also boasted a rich panel of side initiatives and an unprecedented route, appreciated by athletes, authorities and audience.

The wait is almost over. Monday, April 10th, in Villa di Cordignano (Treviso, Northern Italy) Giro del Belvedere will celebrate its 100-year anniversary, with a very special edition of the U23 international cycling race. A historic milestone for the Easter Monday Classic, which saw its first event in 1923: through the years, 83 editions were carried out, showcasing some young talents who turned out to be also great champions in the Pro category.

From the very first winner, Alfonso Piccin, to the latest one, Romain Grégoire, Giro del Belvedere kicked-off the careers of riders like Maurizio FondriestSilvio MartinelloIvan Gotti, Jaroslav Popovič, Stefan Küng and Juan Ayuso. Once again in 2023, the best U23 talents on the international scene will show off on the roads of what many define as a Spring World Championship, fighting for a chance in the Pro category.

The Youth Team of the Dutch Giant is among the favourite on the starting line of Villa di Cordignano (Italy) on Easter Monday. Tijmen Graat, winner of the Istrian Spring Trophy: “We will attack right away”

Jumbo-Visma Development Team is eager for being back at Giro del Belvedere on Easter Monday, April 10. The strong squad coming from the Netherlands is still looking for its first ever win on the finish line in Villa di Cordignano (Treviso, North-East Italy) and the line-up looks up to the job.

The yellow-black team is taking part in Giro del Belvedere for the third time in a row: so far, the best performance is the bronze medal by former World Junior Champion Per Strand Hagenes, who in 2022 got behind French rising star Romain Grégoire (Groupama FDJ) and runner-up Italian Federico Guzzo (Zalf Euromobil Desirée Fior).

The Venetian team placed two riders on 2022 Easter Classic’s podium and has been the most decorated squad throughout the last 15 years, but not yet quenched

Ahead of the Centennial edition of Giro Del Belvedere (April 10th) there is no lack of self-confidence in the words of Davide De Pretto, one of the best riders of Zalf Euromobil Desirée Fior, a historic U23 cycling team and the squad that here got the most wins in the last 15 years. Twelve months ago, on the finish line of Villa di Cordignano (Treviso, North-East  Italy), Zalf was able to place two athletes in the top-5 (Federico Guzzo, 2nd, and De Pretto indeed, 4th), but couldn’t manage to triumph over French rising talent of Groupama FDJ, Romain Grégoire.

The centennial edition of Giro del Belvedere is quickly approaching: on MondayApril 10th, in Villa di Cordignano (Treviso, North-East Italy), 35 teams will battle it out to succeed in the Easter Monday Classic18 squads come from Italy, while 17 from abroad, with 13 Countries represented overall. The best riders of the U23 category will face an unprecedented 171 km route, more technical and demanding than ever.

Not less than 21 Continental Teams are expected at the start: the reigning champions of Groupama FDJ (France) defend the crown grabbed by French rising star Romain Grégoire in 2022, while other youth squads of UCI World Tour Teams trying to get in the way: among them, the French fellow team of Ag2R Citroën, Dutch giant Jumbo-Visma and Astana Qazaqstan (Kazakhstan).

Giro del Belvedere adds a “gourmet” ring to its centennial anniversary’s route

A new segment featuring an unprecedented climb spiking up to 15% gradient, will join the two traditional loops of the Conche and the Montaner ascents. Public and private efforts made this further novelty possible

The Organizational Committee of Pro Belvedere is working relentlessly towards the Giro del Belvedere centennial anniversary, scheduled in Villa di Cordignano (Treviso, North-East Italy) on April 10th, 2023. As per tradition, the best U23 cycling talents on the international panorama will gathered in Veneto, for the 84th edition of the Easter Monday Classic, ready to give the fans an even greater show.

Thanks to an efficient joint effort, involving the OC, the Municipality of Cordignano and the Grigolin family through Brussi Costruzioni srl company -, the Belvedere will feat a new ring called “Giro del Buongustare” (Fine tasting), which aims at making the race increasing spectacular and at enhancing the local gourmet experience for the fans.
